Government Polytechnic College , Krishnagiri
On the recommendations of the State Board of Technical Education and Training, the Government of Tamil Nadu has sanctioned the establishment of this Polytechnic, in the then Dharmapuri District from the academic year 1979-80. Accordingly this Polytechnic started functioning from 20-6-79. This Polytechnic is located 3 km away from Krishnagiri Town on the Krishnagiri to Chennai Road NH 46. It is well connected by frequent town buses from Krishnagiri.
This Polytechnic has been selected as a Project Polytechnic under the World Bank Assisted Second Technician Education Project. A new hostel for the girls has been constructed under the above project.
There is a Staff-Students Co-operative Stores functioning in this Polytechnic for the benefit of staff and students. The Library of this Polytechnic is fully equipped with 13,000 Volumes. There is a placement Section functioning under the charge of a Senior Lecturer. There is a N.S.S. wing in this Polytechnic with 200 Volunteers.

AdmissionÂ
Students who have passed 10th standard or failed in 12th standard can join 1st year while those who have passed 12th standard can join 2nd year through the lateral entry process.
For lateral entry admissions 12 pass, 10th pass with two years I.T.I(NCVT).
For Part time admissions, 10th pass, 10th pass with two years I.T.I.
MODE OF SELECTION
Regular Diploma Courses
Selection of eligible candidates for the courses in the Polytechnic Colleges and Special Institutions will be made based on the total marks secured in the qualifying examination and the ranking will be done in the order of total marks secured by the candidates in the SSLC / Equivalent examination following communal reservation. In respect of candidates whose maximum marks in the qualifying examination more than 500 as per scheme, the maximum marks shall be reduced to a base of 500 and rank arrived at along with other candidates.
Sandwich Courses
For 50% seats in the Sandwich Diploma Courses the selection will be done based on the total marks secured in the qualifying examination as for the regular courses following merit and communal reservation.
For the remaining 50% seats in the Sandwich Diploma Courses the eligible candidates sponsored by the approved industries will be admitted.
The list of industries which are participating in the Inplant Training etc., are alone eligible to sponsor candidates.
Sandwich courses will extend for a period for 3 & 1/2 year (7 semesters). Candidates admitted to sandwich courses will attend the Institution study as well as Inplant Training in one of the connected industries.
These candidates should satisfy the rules relating to eligibility rules prescribed.
